Zanzibar Portraits

These portraits of students were taken during assignments for Zanzibar Højskolen and Sazani Associates. Sazani Associates is a British NGO working with communities in Zanzibar and Pemba Island.

The photographs were captured on analogue film to create a warm and intimate feeling. Working with film also gave the portraits a natural texture and character.

The students and their surroundings provide a personal view of everyday life in Zanzibar. Through these portraits, Mikkel Grabowski focuses on people, expressions and the atmosphere of the places he photographs.
