In 1988 I travelled across Java, Bali and Lombok to reach the back then quite unexploited Gili islands off Lombok as well as climb 3.726m high Mount Rinjani and other vulcanoes on Bali and Java. One of the most visually striking was Mount Bromo on Java. Finally my exploration ended on the western coast of Java close to the Ujung Kulon National Park.
