Mikkel Grabowski

Mikkel Grabowski is the epitome of a renaissance man. He is a photographer, writer, content creator, guitarist, singer-songwriter, producer, publisher and teacher. He is also a captain and tour leader.

He was born in Denmark in 1966. In 1975, his family moved to Kenya. Mikkel quickly fell in love with Africa and developed a strong desire for adventure.

After finishing high school in Denmark, Mikkel became a self taught photographer and illustrated several books. In 1987 he was employed as a photographer/producer by ST&O Studio in Copenhagen, specializing in audio-visual corporate presentations for some of the biggest companies in Denmark. From 1990-1992 he was chief photographer on Danish Symphony – a huge multimediashow for the Danish Pavillion at the World Fare in Seville Expo ’92. Also he has contributed as a still photographer on a number of Danish movies. 

Mikkel Alexander Grabowski is the photographer, author and publisher of the acclaimed coffee table book Mølleåen – a project he started as a teenager which took him more than 30 years to complete, where every single image was shot on film. He has made a number of exhibitions of his photos from this book and his photos from Bagsværd Sø permanently decorates the staircase tower at Bagsværd Station.

Mikkel has photographed in more than 35 countries on several continents but Africa has been a recurring destination. During more than four decades he has persistently captured the intrinsic beauty of Africa and its colorful inhabitants, resulting in a remarkable and unique website – africa-expert.com showing the amazing variety of this continent.

On a more formal note, Mikkel is educated as a screenwriter at the National Danish Film School. He also trained as a teacher at N. Zahles Seminary.

Mikkel holds an M.A. in African Studies from the University of Copenhagen. The interdisciplinary programme covers Africa’s history, politics, culture, nature and global connections. His in-depth knowledge of Africa has qualified him to work as a tour leader for Albatros Travel, Bravo Tours and Stjernegaard Rejser.
